Village Lane Wine Bar

About Us

Wine makes every meal an occasion, every table more elegant & every day more civilized.

Village Lane wine bar’s cozy yet bustling atmosphere and friendly staff has served the Camden neighborhood since 2015.

The café/bar is the vision of John Tooby a long time local who along with Chef James set out to present a fresh approach on ethnic inspired tapas with fresh ingredients, clean flavors & modern touches to be shared amongst friends in an unpretentious setting.

The wine bars interesting menu, award winning wines as well as seasonal menu changes keeps the dining experience exciting for long time regulars and first time diners alike.
Village Lane’s beverage list is a thoughtfully curated list of Australian and European wines & beers, with a selection of craft spirits and cocktails to enhance guests’ experience.

The wine list highlights many unknown wines, and honors these wineries’ dedication and hard work in their vineyards. They are wines with soul; some show restraint, while others boast bold flavors, but above all else they all tell the stories of these wineries. The cocktail list features fun and innovative twists on timeless classics

Our Chef

Delivering only the best

James Nieuwendijk – Executive Chef

I found my passion for cooking from quite a few sources at a tender age in my hometown of South Australia. In the year 10 home economics kitchen under the guidance of my teacher Mrs Adams and also from my European grandparents from Slovenia, Germany, Holland and Ireland.

After working in a few kitchens as a kitchen hand I eventually found employment as an apprentice Chef. Studying at the internationally renowned Regency Tafe whilst working at a number of restaurants I finally completed my apprenticeship in 2004. After working along the south coast including McLaren Vale I received a job on Norfolk Island, which I jumped at.

Upon returning from the Island I was once again called to another Island, Hayman Island to be precise working under Executive Chef Glen Bacon. After my last 2 experiences I obviously had itchy feet which lead me to my next employment as Head Chef in the Hunter Valley at a tapas restaurant called Verandah Restaurant under the guidance of Chef/Owner Matt Dillow.

After a few years and the birth of my first son, my wife and I decided to move closer to our family in the Wollondilly area. Working around Camden then down the south coast at Crooked River Winery working under Executive Chef Coop Woodstone, we eventually settled down which has now lead me to the Village Lane Café Wine Bar.

I thoroughly enjoy running my own kitchen again as well as cooking tapas once more. I plan to do seasonal menu changes, following trends and keeping everything fresh and exciting, with a few surprises along the way.

One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined.
